Negative Self Talk

Negative Self Talk

Did you know that on average, we have about 6,000 thoughts running through our heads every single day? That's a lot of brain power! But here's the thing - most of these thoughts are on autopilot, meaning we've had them before and they're just repeating themselves.

When it comes to negative thoughts, let's get real, negative thoughts can be a real buzzkill. It's like having a dark cloud constantly hanging over your head, raining on your parade and making you feel like you can't catch a break.

And the worst part? We often don't even recognize the negative thoughts that have become so familiar to us. It's like they're old friends who've overstayed their welcome, but we're too polite to ask them to leave.

But fear not, lovely readers! With awareness comes power. By simply recognizing these negative thoughts for what they are - old habits that no longer serve us - we can start to break free from their hold.

First things first, let's acknowledge that negative thoughts are totally normal. We all have them from time to time, and that's okay. It's how we deal with them that matters.

So, how do we deal with them? Well, let's start by questioning them.

It's important to ask yourself, is this voice based on reality or just a bunch of negative assumptions?

So, the next time you catch yourself spiraling into a negative thought pattern, stop and ask yourself if the events in your life actually justify those thoughts. Are you assuming the worst without any real evidence? It's time to give yourself a break.

Next, let's reframe those negative thoughts. Instead of "I'm not good enough," try "I may not be perfect, but I'm doing my best." It may sound cheesy, but trust us, it works.

Here's a quick challenge on negative thoughts

It's as easy as filling in the blanks: "Yes, __________, but ___________."

For example:

  • "Yes, I made a mistake at work, but I learned from it and will do better next time."

  • "Yes, I'm feeling overwhelmed, but I'm taking steps to prioritize my tasks and manage my time more effectively."

  • "Yes, I've been skipping my workouts, but I'm committing to a 30-minute walk every day this week."

By using this simple technique, you're acknowledging the negative thought while also reframing it in a more positive light. It's a powerful tool to combat that harsh inner critic we all have.

And finally, let's practice self-compassion. Treat yourself the way you would treat a dear friend who's going through a tough time. Be kind, be patient, and remember that you're only human.

Negative thoughts may be a part of life, but they don't have to control us. By questioning them, reframing them, and practicing self-compassion, we can break free from their hold and live our best lives.

Let's talk about taking your power back - and trust us, it's not just about standing up to others who have done you wrong. It's also about recognizing that sometimes it's you who mistreats yourself.

We know it's not easy to admit, but sometimes we're our own worst enemies. Those negative thoughts and behaviors can take a real toll on our mental health and overall well-being.

And here's the thing - it's okay to mess up sometimes. We all make mistakes and do things we regret. But it's important to forgive ourselves and move forward, rather than getting stuck in a cycle of self-blame and self-harm.

So, take a moment to acknowledge those parts of yourself that you may have messed over. But also, take a moment to forgive yourself and let go of that baggage. You deserve to treat yourself with kindness and compassion, just as you would a dear friend.

And remember, taking your power back isn't a one-time event - it's an ongoing process. Keep doing the work to recognize and challenge those negative patterns, and don't be afraid to reach out for help if you need it. We're all in this together.
